I have old WGR614v7 netgear router that I would like to reuse as a repeater to boost our my WiFi network range. How do I go about doing so?
Nov 16, 2009 The Netgear WGR614 is a popular and inexpensive 54MBit/s wireless router that can be tweaked to be used as a wireless access point on a threaded LAN. As such, it will contribute to extending the range of the wireless segment of the same LAN or – if the router used does not have WLAN capability – will add WLAN capability to the network. Note that once a router becomes an access point, it will lose router functions such as port forwarding and DHCP server. Note: If you are setting up a Nighthawk router in AP mode, see To configure your NETGEAR router as an AP. Connect a computer to the NETGEAR AP router and launch a web browser. If does not work, try the following.

I am not being a d1^% or anything but Does this site have the information you need < you click here
I have a similar Netgear router and tried to do the same thing. After a lot of searching and asking I couldn’t come up with a solution.
Reset Netgear Router Wgr614
Use alternative firmware dd-wrt. I can’t get to their website right now, but I’ve read on other forums that it supports your hardware. I’ve updated a linksys router with it and it works great. Just make sure you follow directions you don’t want to brick your hardware. I spy treasure hunt neopets.
Thank you for the comments. I also did the search before I post it here like johnpowell, but did not find a good working solution for my router with given HW version v7. That is why I posted it here.
sandystrachan, thanks for the link. I did look through but it did not provide a working solution. It said it cannot be done…???
dskimberlin, I do not think this hw revision was supported by dd-wrt. I’ll do the search but if your reference website is back up, if you can take a second look for me, that would be most appreciated.
The Hardware compatibility site for dd-wrt is still down. You may want to check periodically. If I remember to I’ll check for you.
Thanks for the reference dskimberlin. I did my own search and came up with the supported HW list here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Netgear It does not seems like WGR614 HW version7 is part of the supported list… Sad… =(
